Counter Culture Coffee is a company passionate about high-quality, gourmet coffee beans produced through thoughtful and responsible relationships with their growers.
Why I like them
- They work directly with independent family-owned farmers to nurture long-term, mutually beneficial relationships. (Each bag of coffee is clearly labeled with the farm or coop it came from.)
- A visit to each farm is made at least every other year.
- Financial incentives reward growers for exceptional quality.
- They guarantee 100% supply chain transparency.
- Coffee varieties change with the seasons because beans are picked and processed when they are naturally ready, making for a tastier cup.

Counter Culture is a great company! Askinosie Chocolate just did a fun event with them last weekend in Nashville. Direct Trade is definitely the way to go in my opinion.
Bethany: I agree with you on Direct Trade. I find myself using the term “fair trade” because it’s the term I started out this journey with and I didn’t want to confuse or overwhelm readers too much with all the information I hardly knew what to do with…but now I’m thinking tomorrow’s post may need to be able the differences in terms?
I don’t think I’d heard of Askinosie Chocolate before. Thanks for sharing that info with me- I have so much to learn and I’m really enjoying the process.
